A state burial ceremony has been held for the late Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and seven other compatriots at the Black Stars Square, Accra on Friday 15 August 2025.

The solemn ceremony was to bid farewell to the eight gallant men who lost their lives in the Wednesday 6 August 2025 Adansi Military Helicopter crash. The others include Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong, Deputy Director National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) (Relief & Protocol)and former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East Mr Samuel Aboagye. Members of the crew, Sqn Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Addo Mensah Ernest were also laid to rest.

Eulogising the fallen heroes, the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Force, His Excellency (HE) John Drama Mahama noted that government has embraced the vision shared with the fallen brothers . He stated that the govermnent remains committed to building a stronger and more prosperous future while ensuring that their surviving families especially children are never treated as collateral damage.In honour of their supreme sacrifice, the military personnel were posthumously promoted with an assurance of all benefits due to their families to be calculated on the new rank. For civilian counterparts, he announced that, they will be duly recognised at the next National Honours and Awards ceremony.

As a further measure of commitment, a special fund will be established for the children of all victims, with an assurance that they will not be deprived of the opportunities their parents worked hard to secure. The fund he stated would cover education, healthcare, welfare, clothing, shelter, and other essential living expenses.

The Chief Staff Officer (CSO), Air Force Headquarters, Air Commodore Mathias Awuah in a tribute on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) William Agyapong, expressed a solemn mourning of the Minister for Defence and the three crew members. He extolled the short yet highly productive tenure of the minister and a quality vision that was to transform the Armed Forces. He also praised the fallen officers for their unwavering commitment , noting that their service to GAF and the nation would forever linger.

In a sermon themed “The Last Post”, Director General (DG), Department of Religious Affairs (DRA), Apostle Brigadier General Kumi Wood, intimated that the last post marks the end of an earthly journey. He encouraged the bereaved families to have comfort in the knowledge that the fallen rest in the peace of God.The compariots were interred at the Military Cemetary, Burma Camp. A solemn ceremony witnessed by the president, vice president, government officials , state institutions and families.
