
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in collaboration with the Joseph Ashitey Hammond Foundation has held a centenarian celebration ceremony for World War II Veteran, WOI Joseph Ashitey Hammond (Rtd).
The ceremony, held at Burma Hall on Friday 25 July 2025, was to celebrate the life and legacy of WOI Joseph Ashitey Hammond (Rtd), a true beacon of courage and resilience.
The President and Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama donated an amount of Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢50,000) through Honourable Elvis Afriyie Ankrah to support the Ashitey Hammond Foundation.
In a speech, Honourable Ankrah stated that heroes like WOI Hammond must be honoured to ensure their stories are kept for posterity. This he indicated would teach future generations the essence of sacrifice.
He called on stakeholders to support the Joseph Ashitey Hammond Foundation and other veteran causes to help improve the welfare of veterans.
The Joseph Ashitey Hammond Foundation is committed to promoting a Substance Abuse Free Environment (SAFE), empowering the youth in agriculture and providing healthcare estate for children and veterans.
