A total of sixty-eight (68) personnel drawn from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Defence Civilian Department on Friday, 15 August 2025, completed a five-day volleyball officiating and coaching course at the Ghana Armed Forces Physical Training School at Whistler Barracks in Teshie. The Director of Sports at the General Headquarters, Colonel Richard Akoto, in his remarks, congratulated the participants for availing themselves for the course. He challenged them to make personal development a priority in order to become more marketable even beyond retirement. Colonel Akoto commended the facilitators and instructors from the Ghana Volleyball Federation for their unwavering dedication in imparting modern trends and rules of the game to the participants. He underscored its rippling effects on the development and promotion of credible officiating and coaching of volleyball in the Armed Forces. He reiterated that an additional career choice as volleyball officials and coaches offers a world of opportunities to develop into marketable professionals in volleyball coaching and officiating fields, with prospects extending to the international arena. He further commended the eleven female participants of the course while urging them to be good influencers to other female colleagues. Sergeant Yaro Ronny Abdul-Tawfiq emerged as the overall best student of the course, while Lance Corporal Opoku Ampene Michael and Sergeant Attom Kofi Bernard took the second and third positions respectively. In an address, the Director of Sports and Wellness at the University of Ghana and President of the Confederation of Africa Volleyball, Doctor Luguterah Austin, highlighted that the Ghana Volleyball Federation partnered with the Ghana Armed Forces to undertake the course as the military remains a key stakeholder in the development of sports in the country.
The Guest of Honour for the closing ceremony, the Deputy Director Tri-Service Training Schools at TRADOC, Lieutenant Colonel Oscar Daniel Opoku, urged the participants to put to fruition the aim and objectives of the course.
