The Deputy Director Global Peace Operations Initiative (DD GPOI), State Department in Washington DC, Ms Naomi Doreen, on behalf of the United States (US) government, has donated Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (CIED) equipment to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Friday, 27 October 2023 at the Base Ordinance Depot, Accra. The donation forms part of the ongoing efforts of the US government to support security and economic development in Ghana. The devices which included a range of tools and technologies such as bomb suits, robots, and specialized vehicles is programmed to safely identify, dispose, detect and neutralize improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other explosive threats. Ms Naomi Doreen expressed her appreciation for the partnership between US government and GAF. She lauded GAF for the partnership and commitment to regional security and international peacekeeping, and expressed the hope that the equipment donated will contribute to the efforts GAF is making to maintain the peace and security in the country. The Chief Staff Officer at Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Barima Brako Owusu expressed gratitude to the US government for the donation. He added that the gesture would significantly enhance the ability of GAF to swiftly respond to related security threats. He also thanked the US government for their continued support and partnership with Ghana in the area of security and defence.
