The Key Appointment Holders of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Ghana Battalion 4 (GHANBATT 4) have successfully completed a three-week Military Leadership Training (MLT) at the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS), Battle Training Camp, Bundase on Monday 3 February 2025. Following the successful completion of the MLT which equipped officers with essential leadership skills for effective command in UN missions, a seven-week Military Skills Validation Training to assess personnel deploying for UNISFA and Ghana Medical (GHANMED) operations has commenced alongside a week-long training on preventing the recruitment of children in armed violence, organised by the Dallaire Institute. The Commander Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General Stephen Woseadzikpo Kweku Parbey, who was the Guest of Honour, highlighted the importance of the validation training, describing it as a UN-mandated programme designed to equip personnel with the requisite knowledge and skills for mission success. He commended the Dallaire Institute for its strategic support in enhancing capacity and awareness on preventing child recruitment in armed conflicts. The Defence Attaché of Canada to Ghana, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Palmer, expressed appreciation to the Commander ATRAC and APOTS for their collaboration with the Dallaire Institute. Present at the closing ceremony were the Commander APOTS, Colonel Reuben Dela Klutse; Course Observer Dallaire and Former Commandant, Ghana Military Academy, Major General Omane Agyekum; Project Coordinator, Dallaire Institute, Mr Jean Babtiste; facilitators from the Dallaire Institute; Commanding Officer GHANMED 4, Captain (GN) Okumanin Kwesi Nsaful; Commanding Officer UNISFA GHANBATT 4, Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Nana Nyarko Osae; Deputy Commander APOTS, Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Keelson Ekow Amoah; and participants from the Formed Police Unit of the Ghana Police.
