In commemoration of the National Cyber Security Awareness Month, the Deputy Director (Systems and Programs), Directorate of Information Technology, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Samuel Obuadey has urged personnel of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) to protect data against cyber-attacks. This follows a lecture he delivered on Wednesday, October 18 2023 at the Junior Rates Mess, Tema, admonishing personnel to be cautious, accountable, and incorporate best cybersecurity practices while online since cyber-attacks have become a national security threat. He advised personnel of ENC to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge on cyber security in order to prevent internal and external cyber-attacks from the platforms they visit since countries, including Ghana, are exposed to emerging cyber-attacks. Lt Col Obuadey impressed upon personnel to be vigilant when subscribing to social media platforms and accessing modern technologies as they are susceptible attacks on the internet. He noted that since cyber-attacks were real, terrorists and violent extremists groups took advantage of it to promote their activities. He therefore emphasized the importance of a collective responsibility to protect data, database, network, communication infrastructure of GAF.
