The outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command Major General Matthew Essien has paid a two-day working visit to the 11 Mechanized Battalion, Abilba Barracks, Bolgatanga from 13-14 March, 2024. The visit was part of activities to introduce the incoming GOC to the Battalion and other stakeholders in the region. The GOC made stops at the offices of the Upper East and North East Regional Ministers. The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon Stephen Yakubu thanked Maj Gen Essien for his dedication to duty and stated that the crucial role played by the military has contributed to the relative stability in the region. Maj Gen Essien also visited the forward detachments of the 11 Mechanised Battalion in Paga and Kulungugu where he interacted with troops. He also visited the site for the Forward Operating Base in Navio. Additionally, he visited the proposed site for the establishment of the new Headquarters for the 11 Mechanized Battalion in Gambaga and the FOB at Nalerigu in the North East Region.
