Some crew members of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Lyme Bay paid a courtesy call on the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Eastern Naval Command (ENC), Commodore Maxwell Arhen, on Friday 25 October 2024. The crew, led by the United Kingdom Defence Advisor to Ghana, Commander Richard Walters, discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly in the domain of maritime security and training, to further strengthen the established bilateral cooperation between the United Kingdom and Ghana. Commander Walters remarked that the United Kingdom considers Ghana a trusted ally in security matters at both strategic and operational levels. He noted that the UK Royal Fleet Auxiliary Lyme Bay would participate in training exercises with the Special Boat Squadron, including a marathon event. He reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Ghana in the field of defence and security. Commodore Arhen, on his part, expressed gratitude to the British Government on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff for their assistance in combating piracy in Ghanaian waters. He also highlighted the threats posed by Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and called for continued dialogue and cooperation to achieve shared security objectives. Captain James Wingrove and Lieutenant Rob Johnson were the crew members accompanied the UK Defence Advisor.
