Colonel Abena Acheampong has handed over command and responsibility of the 87 Signal Regiment to Lt Col John Majeed Balou as the new Commanding Officer (CO) on Wednesday 11 September 2024 at Uaddara Barracks, Kumasi. In her farewell speech, Colonel Acheampong expressed gratitude to all personnel and stakeholders for their support during her tenure and appealed for the same assistance to be extended to the incoming CO. She noted that when she assumed command, some office buildings and equipment were in poor condition, but through the efforts of the Military High Command and stakeholders, improvements were made, for which she was deeply appreciative. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Michael Opoku who supervised the handing over ceremony, wished the outgoing and incoming CO well in their careers. He urged personnel to remain loyal, disciplined, and respectful, and to work diligently in service to Ghana. He further advised them to maintain professionalism during the upcoming 2024 general elections to ensure peace. Brigadier General Opoku also encouraged senior officers to influence the younger ones positively, so they could one day look back with pride, knowing they contributed to the success of the Ghana Armed Forces.
