The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Mamat O Cham, has visited the Ghana Contingent at Camp Barra.

The visit formed part of his itinerary to familiarize and acquire first hand information on all military installations The Gambia following his assumption of office as the country’s CDS.

Lieutenant General Mamat O Cham who was received by the Ghana Contingent Commander (CONTICO), Lieutenant Colonel KW Peprah, inspected a Quarter Guard mounted in his honour after which he was given detailed briefing covering operations, administration and logistics matters, as well as challenges.

In his remarks, Lt Gen Cham applauded GHANCOY for their immeasurable efforts in the North Bank Region especially at Barra and surrounding communities. He further expressed his delight in the ECOMIG joint operations with The Gambia Defence and Security Forces (GDSF) inspite of logistics challenges. He assured that frantic efforts were being made to address the logistics issue to pave way for a smooth collaboration and conduct of the joint operations.

He also stressed on efforts to deepen the cooperation between the two forces while highlighting the need to create a training group in the Region.

The Minister for Defence, Hon Serign Modou Njie, who was part of the CDS entourage acknowledged the role of the Ghanaian troops in the Region and noted that Banjul and Accra have for several years had a long-standing military ties.

Other members of the CDS entourage were; the Army Commander, Brig Gen Sait Njie, Directors and Staff Officers from the Defence HQ of GAF. Also present at the event were the SP-TO-MOD, Madam RB Darboe and the North Bank Regional Police Commissioner.
