The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief(C-In-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) His Excellency (HE) John Dramani Mahama has announced posthumous promotion of the 3 gallant military crew who died in the August 6 2025 helicopter crash. Speaking during a state burial at the Black Star Square on Friday 15 August 2025, the President revealed that Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala has been promoted to Wing Commander. The other crew members , Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Addo Mensah Ernest were equally promoted to Flight Lieutenant and Flight Sergeant respectively.President Mahama stated that promotions in GAF are not given lightly as such posthumous promotions are the highest mark of respect for personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty. He further noted that the promotions were in honour of the bravery, dedication and sacrifices of the soldiers to GAF and the nation at large.The C-In-C intimated that the promotions are not just mere symbolic gestures but represent the rightful place these officers have earned in our republic’s roll of honour such that all accompanying advantages will be beneficial to the surviving families. The President indicated that the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong would oversee the ceremonial presentation of the posthumous promotion insignia to the families.
