The President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has visited the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) on Tuesday 12 August 2025 to commiserate with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the families of personnel who perished in the recent military helicopter crash. The President, during the visit at Burma Camp, extended heartfelt condolences to the personnel of GAF and bereaved families. He described the fallen personnel as gallant soldiers who served the country with dedication and honour, and as such will be accorded a full state burial. The C-in-C mentioned that, though service personnel swear their lives to protect the country, no service person should be expected to lose their life under such circumstances. He pledged his full and unwavering support to the families during and beyond this period of mourning. The Chief of the Defence Staff Lieutenant General William Agyapong stated that the President’s continuous engagement with the military high command since the incident occurred reflects the depth of his pain and how personally he has been affected by the loss. Sister of Squadron Leader Anala, Ms Leticia Anala, on behalf of the bereaved families expressed gratitude to the President for his compassion. She noted that the President’s compassion has aided their healing process. Ms Anaala commended the decision to honour the fallen with a state burial and extended appreciation to the President, GAF and the nation for their solidarity and support. The President was accompanied by the Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Chief of Staff at the Presidency Honourable Julius Debrah, Minister of Finance and Acting Minister for Defence Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Deputy Defence Minister, Mr Samuel Brogya Genfi, Minister of Sports and Recreation, Honourable Kofi Adams and other dignitaries.
