Rear Admiral Bessing outlines five strategic pillars as part of his vision for the Ghana Navy

The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, has reiterated his vision for the Ghana Navy during his maiden visit to the Western Naval Command (WNC) from 16 to 20 July 2025.

He stated that his vision focuses on building and sustaining a well-trained, mission-ready, motivated and professional naval force that safeguards Ghana’s maritime interests, advances the blue economy and contributes to national, regional and global maritime security, while upholding the Navy’s values and traditions.

He indicated that the vision, developed through broad consultation with senior leadership, represents their collective resolve to transform the Navy into a more capable and resilient force.

To ensure its realisation, he outlined five strategic pillars thus, ensuring maritime security and protecting Ghana’s sovereignty, improving force readiness, investing in professional development, supporting national development and the blue economy and fostering regional and international maritime partnerships.

Rear Admiral Bessing emphasised that successful implementation of the vision would require commitment at all levels, underpinned by discipline, adaptability, professionalism and teamwork. He expressed confidence in the talent and resilience of naval personnel and assured them of transparent, firm and fair leadership.

He acknowledged resource constraints as the challenges confronting the Navy and commended personnel for their continued ability to adapt and perform their mandate effectively despite the odds.

As part of his visit, the CNS toured key installations and facilities within the Western Naval Command, including the Forward Operating Base, Ezinlibo, Area of Responsibility (AOR) of Operation Hunter, Jaway Wharf, Naval Logistics; Ghana Navy Supply Base, the Navy Lodge; Issah Yakubu Villa; and the Half Compound Accommodation at Kweikuma, Sekondi.
